[ spam ; open for the beginning of the week ]

[Gretel is used to life constantly on the move, constantly with one task or another in front of her. It could be said she operates best under pressure. So really, she's not complaining much about the current state of things on the ship. If anything she feels as if it still leaves her with too much downtime.

Most often she can be found in the hallways where repair work is being undertaken. Some of the time it's because she's part of a repair team herself - others it's because she's being an unofficial supervisor, making sure no one's slacking off, starting a fight or up to generic no good. She doesn't lurk over anyone's shoulder, simply walks past slowly, glances over what they're doing and keeps moving. But she doesn't try to disguise her actions either and if her instincts cause her to even suspect trouble she'll linger.

And at some point she makes a stop outside Mastermind's cabin, knocks on the door hard, and waits. She's going to at least talk to him in person, no matter how long it takes. Or how many times she has to pound on the door.

She can be found at regular intervals twice a day in the dining hall where she actually stays to take her meals. In the gym she looks at most of the equipment curiously, nonplussed, but she does go a few rounds with a punching bag. At one point she can be found on the deck seemingly gazing at the stars. And late Thursday morning she visits the CES where it turns into a thick black forest that she hikes her way through in silence, deep in thought.]

[ video ; filtered AWAY from Mirror passengers ]

[Gretel is sitting before a large rickety wooden table in her cabin. Spread across its entire surface is an array of weaponry - guns, knives and arrows make up the majority, most of it primitive but with a few touches that seem, for lack of a better descriptor, steampunk. Her gloves are off and closest to her is a whetstone, oil, a few rags...she's doing some routine maintenance. She looks at the camera, not what she's doing as she speaks.]

It's been nearly a month since we got back from that place. Three or four weeks, to be more precise, although I'm sure I'm not the only one counting. Just thought I'd mention it, in case it had slipped anyone else's mind.

That long...and despite what promises the Admiral hinted at there haven't really been any signs that anything's about to switch over again. The people originally from the other ship that are stuck here, they've been sorted out just like we have; inmates and wardens. So maybe the only reason I'm asking is because I'm still new here and didn't have any time beforehand to get attached.

But has anyone even considered that this might just be the way things are now? That it isn't going to change? I think we need to at least entertain the thought, enough to make plans for what'll happen if that's the case.

comments

[Gretel doesn't have her crossbow on her, but as she's concerned she doesn't need it. Not to make her point. She stands laced up in her black leathers, the outfit that's her version of combat gear. There's a cold look of hardened determination on her face, gloved hands resting on her hips.

She couldn't look any less like the discomposed, frantic version of her that's on the other barge. She's counting on that right now, frankly.]

So in case it's still up in the air at this point, this is me checking in and saying I am who I'm supposed to be, on this ship. Sorry if there's been any confusion. But like a lot of you I've had some things going on these past few days.

If you need me to prove it somehow, I can. I know exactly who I am.

[She's terse and 100% unrepentant. Just getting this necessary part out of the way and moving on.]

And I realize this is going to count as 'baiting' but -- seriously, I don't care worth one single shit. If there are any of you from that other place that want to mistake me for her, think you can get away with treating me like you did her, I'll be happy to show you otherwise.

[ warden filter ]

Hopefully I'm doing this right -- if I'm wrong, someone stop me, quick.

[But luckily she got a few lessons in "how do communicator" from Stiles before everything hit the fan.]

I realize I might be just about the newest face on this side of things, but it's clear we need to start standing up and getting a few things organized. That other woman is doing her best to take care of the actual work assignments, so I've got something else.

There's already been talk about pairing people off, unofficially. Unassigned charges, people from the other ship that need to be babysat. Well let's make here our place to do it. You got a name, you want them, stand up and be counted. If you don't know who you want, start asking around.

I'm not going to be holding anyone's hand on this either. You volunteer, I think we all expect you to do the work. We were all brought here to do the same job, and keep this ship running. So let's do that.

[She stops, her face schooling into an expression that's too fierce and unpleasant to count as a smile.]

Oh yeah: and I already have an idea who I want for mine. If no one else thinks they'd be better suited, I'm taking the talkative blue guy with the big head. Their so-called voice of reason.

comments

[ spam ]

[Gretel arrives, checks out her accommodations briefly. She finds the place she recognizes the rooms within as belonging from...interesting. It could be unsettling, if she'd let it but. She was told she might find this place to be full of surprises.

So it'll be up to her to check things out, get prepared for what she'll be dealing with here. Once she unpacks her gear and gets things vaguely organized she laces up her black leathers, loads her crossbow and goes on a patrol. Goes all the way up to the deck and then down the stairs to each floor in turn, being careful and thorough in trying to find everything that's there. Leave no corner uncovered and commit it all to memory.

She can be found just about anywhere, from the deck all the way down to level 8. She might make for an interesting sight, a young woman in her slightly anachronistic clothing, taking in everything with a calm look as she walks the length of the halls, crossbow in hand. But she doesn't appear scared or uncertain. Merely...intent.

Mostly she traces the path of the hallways, sticks her head into the doors of rooms to see what's there and move on. The places she lingers a bit longer are the pub, the infirmary, the library and the cells in level Zero. She never stops to ask questions or do more than nod in greeting to people she makes eye contact with, but people are more than free to approach her if for some reason they want to talk.]

[ video ]

[The feed comes on to find Gretel standing in her room - the background is non-specific, but it's clearly the interior of an all-wood cabin. She stands as if prepared to make a speech, her crossbow resting up against her right shoulder with one hand still on the grip.

She smiles, and it's a decent smile, but it doesn't quite reach all the way through her eyes.]

Pretty fucking amazing, this little gadget. I take it I'm supposed to be using this to make my introduction.

[She pitches her voice up a bit, like she's projecting to address a crowd.]

I'm going to be your newest recruited warden. I just arrived today. My name is Gretel. [She pauses, and then her voice turns conversational again, her smile wryer.] And I'll be honest, it feels odd, because this is usually the part where I would also introduce my brother Hansel. But I'm here and he's not, so. [She shrugs with her left side.] We've become somewhat famous back where we come from, but I don't know if any of you here have ever heard of me. We make our living as hunters of witches and evil monsters. However I have been told here that some may also possess magic - you should know you have nothing to fear from me should that be the case. So long as you do not use your powers to harm others.

Outside of that, this is the important part: I'm here to complete a mission, and I'm serious about getting that done. No job we were ever hired to handle was left uncompleted, and I'm confident I can continue that tradition on my own. If you get in my way, I will stop you. If you don't, then we're not gonna have any problems.

[She says this matter-of-fact. There's a hard edge that carries underneath her words, though, lending them extra gravity as she makes this pledge.]

I do have a few questions of my own though, since I'm just getting the lay of the land. If any warden or inmate for that matter wanted to help me answer them, that'd be a big help. [She taps the corner of the screen with her free hand.] The finer points of working this thing, for example. I could use someone willing to show me that. In person.

[She shifts a bit in her posture, no longer standing quite as straight as she puts her hand on her hip and tilts her head to one side. That smile is back again.]

So. How soon can I expect to be assigned my charge?

comments
